A whopping nineteen defeats for the #Government at Report stage on their cruel Nationality & Borders Bill.

We won on:

– Asylum for genocide victims

– Reuniting families

– No offshoring refugees

– No criminalisation of asylum seekers

– Giving safety to unaccompanied children

– Resettle 10k refugees a year

– Rescue people at sea

– No criminalisation of people helping asylum seekers if no gain

– Restoring citizens rights for Chagos Islanders

– Saying no to instant expulsion of people with dual citizenship

– Refugee convention enacted

– Right to work for asylum seekers

– Age assessments: restrictions

– Remove downgrading of “late” disclosure of reasons for asylum

– Protect child victims of modern slavery from disqualification from protection

– Support and leave to remain for victims of slavery or human trafficking

– Local journeys from the Republic of Ireland to Northern Ireland without the need for an Electronic Travel Authorisation

The Bill passed its Third Reading in the Commons. Voting was 298 – 231.

 Proposals seek to outlaw claims from people who enter UK by “illegal” means, eg by boat or container lorry.  This is totally against the spirit and letter of the Refugee Convention, which the government still claims to subscribe to.  It is therefore vital that as many people as possible  protest against these inhumane proposals.
