Fundraising

Supporters organised a Ceilidih in January 26 and raised £450 for us. The band Buttered Peas, played for free which was so kind of them. Refugees and children had free entry and it was very much enjoyed by all.

Skipton Refugee Families – what we do 

Several people in Skipton, have been working consistently with the families from Syria, Afghanistan and Ukraine who have settled in Skipton. They are helping with English speaking, children’s homework, visits to the doctor or hospital, driving practice, taking toddlers to nursery, and generally welcoming people who had to leave their homes and wider families to come here. Help to integrate and to ensure good mental health is an ongoing process, and having local friends is very supportive for the families.

For some of the trips out in school holidays, volunteers have taken groups in their private cars to venues such as Bolton Abbey, Hesketh Farm Park and Burnsall. Other events have included a camping trip, bowling, travelling by train to Bradford for ice skating, swimming at Pendle Wavelength and a trip to Hull to experience the Deep. All of these activities involve admissions and travel costs.

For the last 2 years money has been raised from various sales of donated furniture, plant sales etc. Cash donations have been made by kind individuals, Skipton Refugee Support group, Settle Refugee Support and Skipton & Ripon Labour party women’s group. In order for work to continue, some individuals have begun to raise funds on their behalf. 

Other ideas for support are welcomed.
